Bungei determined to bring back Central Rift’s Previous glory

September 3rd, 2014 — 10:13am

Place, Date: Wilfred Bungei, the newly appointed chairman of Central Rift Athletic Kenya has pledged to bring back the previous glory of the athletics-rich nation. The erstwhile Olympics 800m champ was recruited last Wednesday post departure of  Abraham Mutai.

Abraham was somewhat forced to leave his post following his conviction last year in Kapsabet court o the charge of incitement.

The new chairman is excited with his latest designation at Central Rift.

“I feel this very appointment is a long overdue. I vied hard for this seat last year during elections but was excluded under bizarre circumstances”, said Bungei. “Finally, the time has come to realize my mission of developing the scope of athletics here.”

“There was no executive meeting since elections were taken. This has led to rapid deterioration of sports standards here as there was no share of ideas. My initial undertaking would be to call up a consultative meet with all the stakeholders regarding the routes to take forward.”

Wilfred Bungei, who was the Olympic medal holder for Kenya at Beijing Olympics 2008, stressed that he is geared to establish annual racing in his nation.

“We do carry huge potential in the field events & would work on it.  I do not have cronies & hence I would be flexible to work alongside anybody with good wishes for athletics.”

Bungei’s appointment as the new chairman for Central Rift has received warm response from many esteemed quarters. The AK Nairobi wig has heartily welcomed this recruitment stating that this is a boon not just for Central Rift- yet for athletics overall.

“Bungei is one among the highest successful athletes of Kenya & have this knowledge required to initiate development activities at every level”, remarked Paul Kariuki, the Nairobi treasurer.

Tsarnaev might face death penalty

February 28th, 2014 — 5:21pm

On Thursday, United States prosecutors declared that they would ask for the death penalty against twenty year old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev involved in the Boston Marathon bombing. And this raises the stakes instantly what could be one of the most spraining trials the place has ever heard.

It was widely expected that Attorney General Eric Holder would hold a press for Tsarnaev’s execution news. The twin bomb blasts killed 3 people as well as wounded over two hundred and sixty others. There are seventeen of the thirty federal charges against him that even includes using a weapon of mass destruction and it carries the possibility of the death penalty.

In a statement, Holder stated that the nature of the conduct at issue as well as the resultant harm compel this decision. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has already pleaded not guilty. A trial date has not been fixed yet.

In a notice of intent registered in court, Boston’s federal prosecutors named factors they argue justify a sentence of death, and it includes his betrayal of the United States, where he had stayed since coming from Russia almost ten years ago.

U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz’s notice said that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev got asylum from the United States; obtained citizenship and enjoyed the freedoms of a United States citizen; and then betrayed his allegiance to the United States by killing and maiming people in the United States.

Meanwhile, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s lawyers have not commented anything yet regarding t he issue.
